Kashmiri Pebbles
Why choose Kashmiri pebbles?
Kashmiri Pebbles is a well-known importer and supplier in Australia of decorative natural and polished stones. Their range includes tumbled, polished, mosaic and crushed pebbles in a wide variety of colours and sizes – and we stock all of them! Because they’re non-organic, they won’t rot or break down like bark mulch, so once installed they last a very long time. They also help with weed suppression (when used with weed mat) and improve drainage in beds.
Where and how to use them
Here are smart ways to incorporate Kashmiri pebbles into different garden zones:
1. As pebble “mulch” in garden beds
- Lay down a weed suppression mat first to stop weeds pushing up through the rocks.
- Use a depth of at least 50 mm of pebbles to get good coverage and reduce weed growth.
- Use smaller pebbles (e.g. ≤ 20–30 mm) in beds with foot traffic — they feel softer underfoot.
- Watch out for heat: in very hot, sunny sites, light-coloured pebbles (e.g. white, ivory) reflect light and heat less than dark ones, which can become excessively hot.
2. Around stepping stones, paths or dry stream beds
Pebbles are great for accentuating paths or “dry creek” features. Use them between stepping stones or in channels that collect rainwater runoff. Combine sizes and colours for a natural riverbed look.
3. In and around water features or ponds
Polished or glossy Kashmiri pebbles work especially well around water features, fountains or pond edges as they tend to look more vibrant when wet.
4. Topdressing pots and containers
Use a shallow (20–30 mm) layer of pebbles in big pots or planters. It gives a clean, polished finish, helps slow evaporation, and hides the soil surface.
Zoe's favourite is the Natural Salmon Pink Pebbles - the blush pink colour of these stones look beautiful in a travertine pot alongside some greenery.
Mitch's favourite is the Natural Ivory, which is available in a range of different sizes. He loves this stone as it is not too stark white, and brings a natural softness to any garden.
